i'm thinking about switching college

as the title says i'm thinking about dropping out of automotive school and enrolling in I.U.N. (Indiana University Northwest) and getting my PHd in physics

i love automotive work but i really don't want to do it for the rest of my life and i love physicsso i'm seriously thinking about going for said subject
i'm still debating whether i would want to take mathmatics or anthropology for my minor i know that mathmatics will play more of a vital role in my course of study but for major that would be included in the studies

what do you guys think mathmatics or anthropology for my minor

SO from automotive school to suddenly a Phd?? Ya know when you're at that level there is no minor? Or do you mean a BS degree?

Since you love Physics, go for it.

On the way to your PhD, I'd recommend the math. But, since you're interested in Anthropology, take a lot of those courses as electives - that way you get it all.

Sounds like your BS and MS will also be in Physics?

If Physics are your passion and you can see yourself doing that in 10 years time then I think you should go for it. Think of your future! Good Luck

So you want to teach/do research?

At least you aren't going to make Big Mac's, or maybe you will end up doing that. Cars always need work, there are millions of the things around, but what are your employment options as a physicist, presuming you make the cut?

PhD? Get a BS first, then when you're completely sure you want to be in an amount of debt you'll get out of, get your MS, and then when you're completely sure you want to waste more time and money and encourage others to waste theirs too, get your PhD.

Nicole and gator both make very valid points. Switching majors is NOT something to take lightly, especially in the current conundrum our economy is in.

Re: i'm thinking about switching college

i would love to do research even as a physio-chemist there allways open doors and careers to be explored, something new to be discovered, who knows i might be the one to figure out the old question "which came first, the chicken, or the egg?" i allready know an answer to that one, who cares they both taste good lol

but on a more serious note, as Damien said and i agree with him (assuming by the name the person is a male if not , my bad) completely upon that, granted yes there are many diffrent advancements coming from the automotive field, but here is one question to ponder, in order for something to work, such as hydrogen fuel-cell technology, its has to be proven by numbers and mathmatical equations, thats where physics, or more specificly quantum physics come into play

quantum physics is the study of how molecules and other assorted molecular structures form in to matter and how they respond with in certain conditions, stimuli, ect. fun stuff, at least to me it is i know i'm a nerd lol at least i don't sport the high trousers, massive glasses, and pocket protectors

in short, my point is physics are in every thing, they pretain to every thing, are involved in the creation and construction of every thing

there is a movie i want you guys to look up, the title of it is What the Bleep Do We Know? watch this movie and you'll see why i decided to change my career path if you're open minded enough it will open your eyes and make you see things completely different from what you are used to

one thing i learned from said film is, they're diffrent chemicals in the brain that trigger diffrent emotions, one for sadness, one for fear, one for joy ect. and how we get addicted to the chemicals. i allready knew that but some thing that caught me off gaurd and when i thought about it for a couple minutes, it made perfect sence,

all love is, is the addiction to the chemical that causes the emotions attatched to love,

take it or leave it thats on you, it makes perfect sence to me

watch that movie and you'll know why i decided to change my career path

you know what get a hold of me through p.m. and i'll send you a copy of it
reaping the benifits of a DVD burner once again seriously though
i hope at least 1 person finds the movie intresting and wants a copy of it
