95 jimmy blowing 4wd fuse

Whenever I push the 4-hi or the 4-lo button the 4wd fuse blows. (engine running trans in neutral) first happened while pushing 4-hi button while going 5mph in drive.

I accidently discovered that after disconnect and reconnect of the negative battery cable, the fuse would not blow and the button would stay lit as long as it was pushed while sitting still and trans in neutral. Would blow again if pushed while in drive going slow.

performed the disconnect reconnect battery cable thing new fuse and could push buttons again no fuse blow if stopped trans in neutral.

Got on muddy road stopped put in neutral pushed 4-lo it lit up and seemed to engage. rear wheels would spin but front wheels wouldn't. Pushed 4-hi button it lit up. back wheels spin front wheels wouldn't. Road was real muddy and slick I was hardly moving and if 4wd was working the front wheels should have been spinning.

Why would fuse blow if button pushed while in drive but not in neutral? would even blow in neutral until the battery trick is performed. I wonder how that is related to the 4wd not working.

Codes can be pulled by grounding pin 13 on your diagnostic connector.
If any codes post back codes.

Not sure how to do that. I ran an alligator clip with wire from pin 13 other end to ground. Tried with key on and key off. Is SES light supposed to blink? if so nothing happened.
also tried using code reader after grounding pin 13 no codes.

Code reader will not read transfer case codes.
After grounding pin 13 turn key on and Shift button lights wll blink code.
Post back code or no of button blinks and pauses.
Where did you ground it?

Re: 95 jimmy blowing 4wd fuse

I am assuming pin 13 is counting from the top left to right it would be the 5th pin on the bottom row counting from left to right. I have tried both grounding to the frame and to the body.
When I turn the key on the 4-hi and 4-low buttons light up and and then go out . No blinking afterwards.

http://www.troublecodes.net/OBD2/

No blink no codes stored.

You need to look for what is shorting out/blowing fuse.
Check all wiring and plugin real good.
Check the motor for short.
Good Luck
