Most expensive car you've driven

I was driving about tonight and as often happens I began thinking about cars (perhaps due to the fact that I was driving behind a new Mercedes SLK 55 Roadster wishing I had the cashola to pick one of those up )

And so I thought I'd put up a question to the fine fellows around these here parts to see what the most expensive car you have ever driven was?

I can't lead off with a good one myself (the whole starving artist syndrome), But I did put together a photo and video gallery for a friends website a couple weeks ago on a $250K+ Porsche Ruf. (Porsche Ruf CTR2 Sport in case you want to give 'er a peep) - wish I could have gotten a hold of that one!

Anyway, let's see what kind of crazy expensive cars you've had the thrill of driving...

Re: Most expensive car you've driven

Most expensive vehicle I ever drove was an Army rough terrain 10 ton crane - powered by a huge Caterpillar V8. Second most expensive would be my parent's BMW 530I. Third would be my Jaguar X Type.

Re: Most expensive car you've driven

A ten ton crane - not quite what I had in mind What does one of those go for anyway? I'm guessing it might be the winner unless someone else wanders by and want's to brag a little....

It was a new BMW M5, late 90s. I was detailing it for my boss.

Re: Most expensive car you've driven

I have no idea what the thing cost the Army. Got to play with it at Ft. Leonard Wood when I was in AIT (Crane School) back in the 70's.

Oh, so it's a vintage crane that means in today's dollars it must cost a ton, or well 10 tons. I think you win.

And hey no more cheating with cranes, fire trucks, tour buses, freight trains, or space ships. I said most expensive cars.

OK - if you want to consider vintage stuff in today's dollars - I guess the 1937 Dodge 5 window coupe I owned back in the early 60's might qualify. I also owned a 1969 Olds 4-4-2. I also enjoyed driving a 1970 Olds W-34 Toronado GT that my parents once owned. Glad I made you smile.

Re: Most expensive car you've driven

Ah, a Bentley continental GT - nice addition - and nice neighbors. There's a guy in my neighborhood that often has a yellow Viper in his driveway.... maybe I should make friends.

That '37 5-window would have been a fun one too - that reminds me of a really hot 1934 3-window coupe that a friend's cousin sold awhile back. It was hot rodded out a touch. A slick looking classic though.

Re: Most expensive car you've driven

Even though it was not that hot at the time, I really enjoyed the 37 Dodge. Went to a lot of antique car shows with it. I had a big flathead truck engine put in it after I lunched its original powerplant.

Here's a geography lesson: I live in Ely, Nevada. No, that's not by Vegas, it's not hot like Vegas, it's not a desert wasteland like Vegas. I live at 6500 ft. I'm surrounded by mountains. It's really cold in the winter, and never gets above 100 in the summer.

Re: Most expensive car you've driven

$150k-249k
2005 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Coupe.
Not entirely sure what the car is worth today, but it MSRP's for ~$160,000. A long time friend of mines dad owns one and let me drive it around the block a couple times for my 20th birthday. Not only the most expensive car I've ever driven, but definitely the coolest. Even if it was only for about a mile or two.

Second place would be my dad's 2006 BMW 325i. Considerable step down but still a very nice car.
EDIT: Scratch that, I believe the 09 Volvo S80 AWD I drove is more expensive than the bimmer, although, honestly, I think I'd rather have the BMW.

You lucky dog - that sure is a sexy car, a friend of mine sold an '05 Aston Martin DB9 a couple summers ago - he gets the fun part of the job, but at least I get to live vicariously through all the photos and video I get to work on.
