Floor Board knocks........

there are times when i turn the steering wheel and the floor board under the column knocks...had it up on a hoist...can't see anything...but it still happens...any ideas to this ghostly knocking...i can feel it most of the time when my left foot is streched out and touches the back part of the floor and firewall....

Re: Floor Board knocks........

Ball joints are a pretty common problem with these in the 1996-2001 models. Did you inspect the anti-sway bar end links? Those can cause a noise that sounds like something is about to fall off the truck. And, just because they are not broken yet does not mean they aren't the problem. They tend to rust out and get loose before completely breaking. Also, inspect the area where the torsion bars attach to the frame, which is just below the front floorboard. I believe they went away from torsion bars for the 3rd generation.

Re: Floor Board knocks........

That would have been helpful information to provide in your original post....

Don't rule out the front halfshafts and differential either. Since the torsion bars connect just under the floorboard, pops and knocks in the suspension could be felt at the suspension mounting points.

One other consideration should be to verify that all the lugnuts are properly torqued.
