gas tank removal
daughter came over to the house with a broken gas tank strap. I know the back straps are bolted in place but i cannot see how the front of the strap is held in place without putting it up in the air. I am sure someone out there knows this. Thank you

Re: gas tank removal
I havent looked under there on our Neon either, but on most all cars, the other end of the gas tank strap is a metal fitting that is wider than the strap, and of heavier gauge steel. It fits into a slot or pocket welded to the body bottom. To get the strap out and replace it, you have to be able to swing the strap over to one side, then wiggle it upward. Back and forth and upward. This is usually made difficult by years of dust and rust that are in the slot, as well as the tank being right close by.
Often the hardest part is getting the bolts off, due to rusted threads on the studs. Use lots of penetrating oil. |
