Thumbs up Gas not coming out of the tank

Details: '65 type 1. 40 hp

Several gallons, possibly 5, in the tank. Car won't start. No fuel in carb bowl.

Took hose off fuel line at fuel pump. Dry as a bone, no gas getting to fuel pump. Blew compressed air down line to tank, heard bubbles. Should I replace fuel pump? Thanks for any replys.

Re: Gas not coming out of the tank

Park on a slope with the front of the bug uphill, or jack up the front end. (Block rear wheels)

Loosen up the fuel hose that goes to the fuel pump from the tank. (Observe all fire safety, no smoking, spark, etc).

If fuel comes out then there's no obstruction in the line. If no fuel comes out, then there's an obstruction, clear out lines, and/or clean the tank. Often rust can form in the tank. When you force air into the tank from the fuel line, it moves the rust out of the way, but it will just settle back down.

If that checks out OK, then it's more than likely your fuel pump.
