3.4 Engine Bay Squeal

I have an 02 that squeals under the hood between 2000 and 2500 rpm when accelerating (hard or gently) or when under driving load (ie a slight hill or more). Sounds like a belt to me. However the serp belt seems OK and tensioner seems OK (visually) . I juiced the serp belt up with some belt conditioner to give it more stick - it made no difference. A/C on or off also no difference. It's been doing this for at least 6 months (not getting any worse) Anybody got any ideas? I'm stumped at this point

Re: 3.4 Engine Bay Squeal

How old is the belt? Could it need to be changed?

How old is the water pump? It is designed to squeal when it's about to go bad.

The AC compressor is on when the defrost is on...make sure that it isn't an AC problem and you just happened to have the unit set to defrost.

That's all I can think of. I'm still half asleep, though!

See if the grooved side of the serpentine belt is hard. Try to digg your fingernail into it. If you can't, it is time to change it.

Thanks for the reply and again sorry for the tardy response

It's likely the belt but why only squeal at 2000 to 2500 rpm. And why no change when belt stick sprayed on - I would have expected it to do something even for a few minutes?
