I do all my work exept for when I need expensive special tools, major electrical problems, and when I need my vehicle back on the road and can't afford costly mistakes.

I do most all of my work.. Front wheel drives I do limit engine and tranny swaps.. I prefer rear wheel drive when it comes to trans and clutch repairs. Front wheel drives tend to be more of a pain when doing clutch pressure plates swaps.. Now when it comes to trans fluid replacement. I will do pan drops and filter changes but you can't beat the dealer when it comes to staying clean.LOL
You will save a lot doing it yourself..

Unless the work requires expensive equipment, I do most of my own work. Changing a tranny or an engine in a FWD is something I have not done and probably don't want to.

Changing trannies and engines on FWD isn't that bad.....just different. Once you do one you'll want to do more! Well....maybe LOL

I will do most of the work on my cars if I know what it is. Sometimes I won't even if I know what it is. Case in point I had a O2 sensor go out in my 96 lumina, the one that is before the catalytic converter. I got the part and put the car up and decided that since I literally only had about a half of an inch to work that I would call around and see how much it would cost me. I had midas quote me 2 hours labor and they would use my part but not warrenty it. I also found a coupon for twenty five dollars off so I went with it and let them do it. I dropped my car off in the morning and went back to check on it before I went to work in the afternoon. I felt so bad for the guy he had been working on it since I had dropped it off and still no luck. To make a long story short when I picked the car up the next moring he said it took him eight total hours to get the job done. It cost me about 100 for the labor. I wouldn't have been able to do this job laying on the ground. I later found out that GM makes a special o2 wrench just for this car. Sometimes you have to have the right equipment to do a job, and the dealers usually have the right tools which is a bunch of crap but such is life.

LOL!!! Well to be honest if I started with changing FWD engines and tranny's I may not think it was so bad but the first engine and trans I ever removed was in my old 1971 VW SB when I modified it back in 1988. Rebuilt it and all.. Removed both engine and trans.. Took me less than hour to remove both.. But I had removed bug engines before but not the trans so you could say I already knew what to do... Second engine and trans I did was in an 1987 BMW 325i again BMW has rear wheel drive and it was easy.. OK I could keep going with my RX7 that i had which was easy as well... Then in 1990 I changed a clutch in a 1980's something Nissan sentra..After that I said the hell with front wheel drives.LOL No Its not bad it just takes so much time compared to RWD cars..Plus it so dang tight to move stuff around.. Not to mention the ones you have to drop the sub frame along with the suspension. I do think however Camero's which are RWD you have to remove the suspension and sub-frame to drop the trans and motor. Or at least from what i was told.. Just my 2 cents.. Take care..
