92 probe lx 3.0 engine

was told heads need replacing and engine is producing alot of heat. whats more practical, replace heads, rebuilt engine, or motor swap. if motor swap, what are my options. Thanks, any help appreciated.

Welcome to the forum! It depends on how long you want to keep the car. If you don't plan to keep it long just put a couple of used heads from the boneyard on it. If you want to keep it more than 2 years, I would put in a rebuilt engine. Putting on 2 new heads will cost almost as much as putting in a rebuilt engine so don't put new heads on it. Another option you may consider is putting in a used motor from the boneyard. Most yards will guarantee their engines don't use any oil. Some will put the engine in for you for about $800 altogether. New heads will run you about $1500. Rebuilt heads will run you about $1000. A rebuilt engine will cost about $2600. This is just my opinion (everybody's got one) I would get a used motor from the boneyard and I would have them put it in for me. Save you some money. If the heads are bad in your Probe the lower end isn't that far away from going out, too.

Personally I would get a used engine from the jy. The 3.0L "Vulcan" was used in a variety of Ford and Mercury vehicles, and should be pretty easy to find. GL.
