97 cavalier shifter cable

The shifter cable end came off the linkage. No big deal I thought I bought another shifter cable. The problem is that the knob on the shift stick will not come off so I cannot remove the casing to get the cable on. How do I remove the shift stick? There are no visible screws etc. Any pictures showing the process would be greatly appreciated. I do not want to take it to the dealer for such a simple repair.

Re: 97 cavalier shifter cable

Put shifter in 2nd, 4th or reverse. towards the front of the knob you'll notice an indent. There is a U clip in there. Get yourself a flat head screw driver and pry it out. The know will then come right off.
