99 f150 failed emissions.. what do I do?

Just got back from taking truck in for e-test.
It failed miserably.
Not sure what we need to do now to get it to pass.
We just changed the oil, and put carb cleaner through it.
It does have high km (340k km), but is still in good shape.

Results were:
ASM 2525
HC ppm, Limit 76, my result 315
CO %, Limit 0.42, my result 10.33

All other scores were ok & passes.

Please tell me what to do.

With that many miles on it did you do a tune-up & compression test ?
If you have a dead cyclinder it will fail the at idle portion of the test.
Is the cat ok ?

The cat is ok... that was checked.. tune up was done, but not a compression test.

The idling part passed fine, it was just when they were revving the heck out of it that it failed.

Other suggestions are fuel pressure regulator, EGR valve, engine is leaking oil past valve seals or piston rings, carbon build up on throttle plate or intake valves, sorry the list is so long but without having it in a shop to test these different areas there is no way to tell exactly what is causing the vehicle to fail.

Well, I think both tests failing are the result of the same problem...

CO = Carbon Monoxide and is the by-product of incomplete combustion (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_monoxide).

HC = Hydro-Carbon which in the automotive world is either going to be gasoline or motor oil (both come from crude oil).

My theory on this is that way too much fuel is getting into your cylinders to the point that the engine cannot burn it all and you are ending up with way too much gas going out the tail pipe, the catalytic converter can only process so much of it during the time the exhaust has to go through it.

If you smell your exhaust pipe after the engine is warmed up and you have someone rev it to 2,500 rpms what does the exhaust smell like gasoline or motor oil?

We bought an ODB code reader last night, and hooked it up to the truck.

We got a P0102 code. After searching around under the hood, we found the plug/harness to the MAF was disconnected. Visually inspected the MAF, and it looked nice & clean.. no freyed wires, no gunk buildup. We reset the code, and I drove it into work today (15minutes on highway) and the cel has not come back on.

Could this have caused our failure?

If so, I'll take it back for retest.. but if you think not, I'll wait rather than waste any more $$.
