Question Typical Lifespan Of A 2000 Regal Ls

Just Curious To Get Different Opinions Of The Typical Lifespan Of The Original Engine In A '00 Regal. I'm Up To 150k And I'm Worried It May Be Time For Funeral Arrangements

Re: Typical Lifespan Of A 2000 Regal Ls

Welcome to AF.

Rather ambiguous question. Too many variables. The Series II 3800 has some well known issues but overall fairly reliable. Some members have reached over 300K miles on them. I have 135K miles on a '99 LS. The only major issue with the engine was the LIM (lower intake manifold) and UIM (upper intake manifold) gaskets.

What issue(s) are you having?

I just sold mine to the junkyard for 100$

530,000 km's
over 300,000 miles.

started fine and still only used about a liter of oil after 3,000. km's.

Cheers

Re: Typical Lifespan Of A 2000 Regal Ls

To be honest I have very few minor issues, so far that is.

I've had the simple electrical issues i.e. Ignition switch, Power Window Switch, Combo Switch.

But I do have a couple minor problems maybe I can get some help on!

1. Humming/Whining noise coming from engine, especially when turning the steering wheel.

2. Digital odometer was fading in and out, but is now completely blank. At one point it would display if I repeatedly pressed the trip/odometer button, but now that won't even bring it back to life.

3. Transmition seems to shift sort of rough. Especially going from 0-30 mph, pretty much 1st to 3rd....it gives a good jerk each time it shifts. This is only every so often, but is noticeable. Had the trans. flushed and only corrected the problem for a short time, but came right back.

4. AC blows cold air on Passenger side, but not on driver side. I've done alot of reading and it all seems to boil down to the Dual Control. Not sure exactly where to start as far as fixing it.

I know it's alot to respond to but if I could get some help it would be greatly appreciated!! I'm no mechanic, so the local shops charge an arm and a leg for things that are D.I.Y. jobs, I just need the answers, parts, and instructions on how to do the work myself. Thanks in advance!

Have you checked the power steering fluid level?

There is a fix that involves removing the IP cluster and soldering/replacing certain resistors. We have some old threads that cover the issue.

Most likely the pressure control solenoid - PCS issue. Get it scanned and see if a P1811 (max adapt, long shift) DTC is stored. This code does not trigger the check engine light but stores for retrieval. The hard upshifts is a result of high line pressure due to shift timing out of specs.

Check for low refrigerant charge.
