I'm havin a bit of a problem locating the switch for the back up lights. manual tranny.
also i get alot of high pitch noise on the highway, thought it was tire "sing" but from what I see here, might be a bearing

Talking Re: 2005 focus zx3 reverse light switch

welcome to AF. Look from the front of the car towards the tranny. The switch is at the front of the tranny case towards the bottom of the gearbox. It has 2 wires running into it by a clip. If you take it out most of the tranny fluid will leak out since it is at the bottom of the transmission.

To check for a wheel bearing jack it off the ground and rotate it. If it is bad you will hear and feel the rougness. The Focus as the Escort is famous for loud road noises into the passenger area. My Escort talks to me all the time. I ignore it though.

Re: 2005 focus zx3 reverse light switch

Thanks Dave, I finally found my reverse light switch, may be there is more than one manual tranny, but mine was on top of the tranny, practically under the attachment points for the driver side shock/strut. Had to remove the battery case to see it.

Also thanks for the road noise info, that may be what I'm hearing. It seems too high pitched for bearing grind, almost like tire singing, or whine you get when a tranny syncronizer is going bad. Guess I get a bit anal on such things, but bearing failure is a bit too exciting at over 90 on the autobahn (I'm working in Germany)
