Radiator extraction for 97' SL 1.9L SOHC(Procedures)
Unofficial Guide to Changing Radiator on 97' SL1 1.9L SOHC
1. Let car cool down...Drain Radiator by loosening drain cock on passenger side of the car(on radiator bottom of course). 2. Extract both upper and lower radiator hoses to free up some space. 3. The radiator fan assembly is connected to the radiator at 4 points. Three are just slots, but there is one bolt on the upper drivers side. Use a 10mm socket to extract the bolt and unplug wiring harness on the fan motor. Remove fan assembly(remove wiring clips as needed) 4.The radiator is bolted to the A/C condensor at 2 places on the very bottom of radiator. There is very little room so the best way is to go in from the bottom. Removing the air dam may be required.Several plasic clips hold the air dam to the underside.I believe about 4 clips have to be removed and the whole airdam comes down. There is very little room and I found it next to impossible to get to these bolts from the topside(10mm bolt heads). Also the radiator has two slots built in so that the radiator hangs onto the A/c condensor through a "slide-in" slots on each side of radiator. 5. Extract radiator and curse if needed. Installation is reverse of Extraction. ** Plug connector back into fan assembly before lowering into place** |
