Speaker Help!!!!!
The right rear speaker of my 2003 GT Limited Edition 3.8 L V6 doesnt seem to be working.
I have the bose sound system. The balance and faders are set right. I checked the voltage from the speaker wires, the one on the left shows 24 volts when the broken one shows only 6 volts but still no sound coming out. Trying to remove the speaker to see if its a bad speaker but unable to figure out how to remove them from the rear deck. |

Re: Speaker Help!!!!!
Remove the lower seat (cushion) by pulling on it. Undo the bolts you see there (I think there's 4 or so...i haven't taken them out in a LONG time). You can now slide the seat back up and out. I believe from there you can access/remove the rear deck...but it's been a while since I've done this...I'm sure that's all there is to it. The screws are underneath the deck to pull out the speakers.

Re: Speaker Help!!!!!
save yourself the trouble and just plug a differnt speaker in place of the bad one just for test purposes.
If the "good" speaker is revieving 24 volts (a little high, maybe you mean mV) from the amp, and the "bad" speaker is only recieving 6 volts (6mV?) then I would almost suspect a burnt out channel on the amp. You can measure the resistance across the speaker terminals to check for a shorted or open voice coil. Do this with the speaker disconnected. Look for about 4-6 ohms (at least that is what I think most GM speakers are). It should be printed on the speakers magnet.

Re: Speaker Help!!!!!
Some of the time the speaker resistance is not printed on the speaker, but TBlake is correct on what the speaker resistance should be.

Re: Speaker Help!!!!!
Just tap into the channels comming off the amp...
its super easy access, its right on the rear deck in the trunk! saves you sooo soo much work cuz that rear deck is a jerkkk but the bose speakers are funny with restances the subs are 2.2ohm (+/-.2 ohm) and the mids are 4, and well the tweets are 4 and the drivers are 4 with the described situation i would say its the speaker not the amp my front left driver died... just stoped one day, but the voltage was almost the same, and the resistance was almost the same...its a picky system but at least it doesn't lock out all the speakers in the car! |
