Question 94 Sierra Problem...Need help ASAP!

I have a 1994 GMC Sierra has only about 45,000 miles on it and having what I believe to be an electrical problem.

The truck turns over but doesn't start. The battery has been replaced about a month ago and I know 100% that it's not the alternator. In the past, I have had problems with the truck dying while driving down the expressway/road. It will die for approx. 10-15 seconds and all the gauges would go to one side and back just once quickly. Then it would start right back up with no problems or signs of any thing had happen.

There is an older alarm and remote starter on the truck. Could this be where my problem is coming from?

Any information would be helpful since the truck is not drivable and I have no idea on what to do to fix it.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, there maybe a link with the car alarm/starter. Check the wiring connections at all the terminals and butt connectors or remove all together to eliminate the possiblity of the controller being bad. Next check for fuel pressure and ignition to determine if there is an issue with these items. Process of elimination. Always check the ground connections in your examination.

Thanks will give it a shot. The weird thing is that the starter does still work. The truck did start. Could it still be the alarm/starter?

Sure, the starter is still connected but if the remote brain does not connect the ignition power to the circuit all you are doing is cranking the starter. All the wiring for ignition has to be routed through the remote system. I have seen a few of these devices foul up and cause problems. Not saying this is the only possibilty but combined with the info of stopping going down the road (electrical) makes it more of a target.

Check the battery terminals to be sure they are perfectly clean.

This is a bad ignition control module. Betcha'.

Get it tested for free at Advance / Zone. Before going, see what you will need to remove it from the motor - usually a socket driver, screwdriver, wrench. It's held on with 2 bolts.

I too second the ignition control module. Ditto for battery cables. GM had problems there for a while with battery cabled rotting from the inside out so they'll look fine on the outside but not inside.

Never seen an alarm/remote starter or what ever cause this issue. The alarms usually just cut the starter output but he states it still turns over. Although if you don't use the alarm/starter might as well tear it out anyways just to cut to the chase.
