WIP: 1/24 Porsche 911 GT1

OK, those horrible resin nightmares are gone and with a gigantic sigh of relief I open the box of a model, test fit a few parts and whaddya know, THEY FIT TOGETHER!!

It's good to be back with Tamiya

So this is the new project, another Porsche but the beautiful 911 GT1. As garish as it looks I really like this colour scheme and I think the real car looks just mind blowing (for those of you who have seen it up close!)

Anyway, as my old 917 build this has the Renaissance transkit allowing me to open the doors which I intend to do. I will be 'going to town' with the details as I did before and I think my previous two 'curbside' builds have made me want to get back to 'real' modeling even more.

So first up here's what you get in the box...

and the few extras I have picked up...

I have also ordered the Scale Motorsport C/F Decal set which will considerably help with decaling all those carbon bits (of which there are plenty!)

I am also looking for some nice reference pics of the car, mainly the engine bay. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be eternally grateful!

oh it's good to be back on a plastic kit and who better than the big T!!!!

Looks like this is going to be an exciting build. Good luck, I really like the livery on this car. Can't wait to see more.

Re: WIP: 1/24 Porsche 911 GT1

Looks good so far. I had a horrible time with the fit and finish of mine. mostly the rear lid, wheels, and spoiler. the decals were troublesome (ripping), but it looks ok.

I'm tuned

Sean, if you need spares for this give me a shout.
I bought this kit cheap with a partly painted but not decaled body for a restoration but it I didn't notice that it was missing the wheels doh! I am pretty sure I'll never build it so it's yours if you need it including the decals.

Re: WIP: 1/24 Porsche 911 GT1

chopping done, however with a big thaks to Jaykay I have managed to get enough reference information to allow me to open up the bonnet too, so using the Tamiya needle saw, a brand new blade and then a few delicate strokes with the needle files we are left with this...

as you can see in the next pic, the chassis detail is almost asking for the bonnet to be opened up (top of front suspension detail included). Yes I will have a lot of scratch building to do in the front as there is no more included understandably as it normally would be hidden from view...

no dramas in the end and the Renassiance doors fit reasonably well too which is a bonus, I may have to do a little tweeking here and there but so far so good as they say!

Re: WIP: 1/24 Porsche 911 GT1

Magnificient project.

Couple of days ago I was playing with the idea doing this one a "full view" as Tamiya offered them a while ago.

Nice to see you being back to detailing - I´m eager to learn once again.

Good luck with all your plans for your modifications.

Robert

Re: WIP: 1/24 Porsche 911 GT1

Hi Sean

Yours builds have this remarkably strange behaviour of being the same as mine - with one exception - you seem to get yours finished...!!!

I have for centuries... okay slightly exaggerated - have the same transkit of Renaissance with the opening doors in my to do pile. Maybe this build will make me finish mine? But I said the same with the FW-12 build - oh well...

The difficult thing about this one is the door sills, that isn't included in the trans kit. Trying to match up to the interior and bridging the gap between the bodyshell and the interior 'bucket' will bring endless fun!

Regards

Flemming

Hey Flemming,

just call me a copycat eh! As for the sills, funny you should mention that, I am just looking at how best to bridge the gap at the moment, all I can say at the moment is...

hmmm, hmmm, hmmm
