What would you suggest to do to build a stock auto tranny on a 1999 ls1 camaro to withhold a comp cam and supercharger i have gotten a hold of?

Re: Auto Tranny Build

I think you will still kill the tranny regardless. I have gone threw two and a stall shortens the life of a tranny by generating more heat due to the slipping til a higher stall and a shift kit is easily debatable if it helps the tranny live longer or kills it quicker but either way, we all push the weak links to the edge in the name of performance (speaking of which I hope you have a strong rear in that car).

Invest in a solid tranny cooler. It will be basically the cheapest , most helpful thing you can do short of having a performance rebuild done.

Re: Auto Tranny Build

The "best" thing to do is get a rebuilt trans with more clutch packs and metal spacers, better pump (more vanes) and there is a lubrication mod that allows the trans to get lubed at ALL times. GM had some strange ideas on when it didn't need lube and that shortened the trans life too.

Re: Auto Tranny Build

Well i have a tranny oil cooler. But what size stall would you recommend? And how much will the shift kit benefit? Cuz a 4L60E is an electric tranny? So what is the transgo shift kit doing for my stock tranny?

Re: Auto Tranny Build

your stall speed will depend on your gear ratio and cam. you want all 3 of those to match up for optimum performance. I also recommend having a local tranny specialist help you get a custom torque converter for your application. the pre-built mail order ones don't hold up well, unless of course this will only be a street driven car without any hard launches.
