car starts, won't idle
My wife's car had a code to replace the EGR valve. did that and the car started great then drove it down the street and at the stop sign it stalled. started it but it would not idle. if you hold the gas pedal it will run but as soon as you release it it stalls. took it to have a diagnostic codes done on it at the local parts store and only the EGR valve code to replace was still registering. #5 cylinder is misfiring but after the codes are cleared it runs fine except it still won't idle. Had to use both the gas and brake pedal to get it home. Any help will be greatly apprecited. have two out of three cars down this weekend. need them running for the work week.

Re: car starts, won't idle
Update. Got the misfire corrected. #5 cylinder both the plug wire and the distributor cap was cracked. Replaced everyting. Runs ok, computer/idle still won't hold when you first start the car. after a bit of reving the engine and driving it willidle at a low 600rpms. Norm is around 900rpm. The EGR valve was replaced but the check engine light won't go out, even if the codes was cleared. What else chould I be checking for.
