Unhappy 95 Cherokee. Need Help! Stranded!!

I was driving up a small incline, my 1995 jeep cherokees gas pedal seemed to bog down 1 time and I lost power. I waited about 15 minutes, contstantly trying to start. It would try to turn over but never would. Finally, it started. I moved approx 1/4 mile and it happened again. This time I only waited about 5 minutes and it started. I made it about 2.5 miles down the mountain to a flat spot. I stopped and turned the jeep on and off about 7 times. Started right up. I proceeded to go up another hill and it happened again. I turned around and parked it not wanting to get stranded on the side of a mountain. Can anyone help me. Stuck in a very rural area with no mechanic for miles and miles. Thanks so much!

Sounds like your CPS is about to go out its not a hard fix but can be a pain, the part will cost you about $70.00 at autozone

I guess, first off, does the check engine light remain on?? That would start the ball rolling on diagnosing the problem.

Sincerely,
Matt

It does sound like the Crankshaft Position Sensor to me also; had it ever cut out prior to this episode?

Re: 95 Cherokee. Need Help! Stranded!!

I also had a similar problem with our '96 Cherokee, but it turned out to be the camshaft position sensor. I also replaced the crankshaft position sensor, but that did not fix the problem. The code reader pointed me in a direction, but not an exact direction. Until I replaced the camshaft sensor did the light go out.
