Hard to start

2002 4x4 4.3
87,000 miles
------------------
I don't know if this is related or not so I'm going to mention it.
I recently had my fuel pump replaced at a shop. My check engine light came on close to two weeks later with a P0442 and turns out they forgot to hook something up, sorry, I don't recall what. They fixed that for free. Around the same time I got the new pump it became hard to start. Not sure if it is related or just odd timing. By hard to start I mean I turn the key and normally it would fire right up but now it sounds like it did and when I let off the key it either isnt running or ran for a second and died...if Im quick to give it some gas I can keep it going. Almost always on the second try it will start but rarely the first time I try.

Do you think this might be fuel pump related or something completely different?

Re: Hard to start

I would suggest seeing what the fuel pressure is doing with a fuel gauge. If pressure is bleeding off than it can be one of three things, injector, pressure regulator, fuel pump. With a gauge you will know for sure if your dealing with a fuel issue or not.

One thing you can try is cycling the key a couple of times before you start it. Key on for a couple of seconds, key off, key on for a couple of seconds and then start. If it starts right up every time I think we can safely say that there is a fuel issue.

Re: Hard to start

Thanks for the advice.

I ended up calling the shop that put the new fuel pump in. They say it's the fuel pump they put in so they are replacing it tomorrow. Just wanted to give an update incase anyone goes looking for help with the same issue.

Re: Hard to start

You still have a waterpump, oil cooler lines, ball joints, axle seals, and a bunch of other nickle and dimes problems to go!

Gee thanks......I can hardly wait. If the value hadnt dropped like crazy, I would be getting rid of it asap!
I dont owe anything on my vehicles and I hate to go get a car payment but I've put about $1,400 in the past 3 months in it, a car payment isn't sounding too bad.
