Sho vs. Nismo Titan
96 SHO (only new mod is a pair of Summit Mufflers--basically they just sound better)
vs. 06 Nissan Titan w/ Nismo tune, Cat Back, and CAI. To be fair it wasn't exactly a Nismo Titan, but with the Nismo mods, that's what my friend likes to call it. We only made 1 run from the dig. We had no predetermined speed or goal in mind, we just wanted to see how the rides ran against one another given a small open stretch. I tried a higher rpm launch this time at 2K. It seemed to work a bit better than 1500 (last time). It was a clean launch with a very little chirp. The Titan gave a bit of a squeal, enough for me to get a quarter panel jump on him. At that point my car continued to pull on him. At approximately 60-65 I had pulled a full car and maybe a quarter on him. I was very happy and very surprised at that point. But my happiness was soon over. 2nd gear is clearly the death of me just like my run with the Tundra. Somewhere between about 65-85 (give or take), he managed to close the gap, plus put a full car and a half or more on me before we shut it down. When we shut down, I had already stopped the pull and started creeping again, but not like it mattered at that point. So in the end, he was pissed I pulled him to 60, and I was pissed he pulled me after I'd already put that much space between us. But it was a fun run, and we are going to do it again sometime from a couple different rolls for fun. Anyway I learned how bad it gets for me once my car goes to 2nd. So my gearing and shift points will be something to look at after I do the basic mods.

Re: Sho vs. Nismo Titan
The V-6's have a great aftermarket and support. The V-8's are not nearly as well supported. They do have a fairly strong following, but you have to know where to look. Also with basic mods, the V-8 still doesn't respond too much. It takes a custom tune to really wake the engine up and unlock its potential.
With the gears, I have to rip a set off the SLO Tauruses from the same generation (pretty cheap to do so). They put the better gears for acceleration in the slower car. Mine comes with 3.77, and I'll be swapping for the 3.98. The ones I have are great for top end, but I don't anticipate ever doing 148-150, so I don't think I'll regret the swap. In the next couple months when I take it in to have the cams welded (a must for my car), I'm going to have work done to the intake since they will have it off anyway.
