1999 Cavalier back doors will not open, not power locks

My Daughter has a 1999 cavaleir, both back doors will not open. It has manual locks, and we have tried to open them from the outside and inside.

Does anyone know how to fix this. I was told that it may have something to do with the anti theft system, however the car starts and stays running.

Please help

Thanks,
Diane

Re: 1999 Cavalier back doors will not open, not power locks

I think you may be referring to the child safety door locks. When this is activated (little switch near the door latch assembly) the doors will no longer open from the inside but can be opened from the outside.

I'm thinking the rear doors rarely get used and the latch has become sticky. One of the pushrods for the levers that open the door are stuck in a position they should not be in. The door will not unlock if this condition occurs. Typically you will feel the slop in the levers which is a dead give away. I call this ford syndrome at work because it happens a lot with them.

I use a lockout kit to move the rods back into there normal position, then open the door, then inspect the latch.
