gas guage not working on 93 grand cherokee

I had some issues that lead me to change the fuel pump, gas guage worked before, now it doesn't I have exchanged the new pump for another pump, I checked the sender on the new one before install and it ohmed out perfect, I got power to the pump the jeep runs great now but gauge doesn't register, I checked the ground it is good, I did not unhook the battery before changing the pump but unplugged it first with the key in off position, do not know if I shorted out something or what any help or things to check would be great, I don't have alot of money to pay a mechanic to fix it for me and I am a good mechanic just unfamilar with the jeeps
