2000 Grand Prix front steering problem????
Ok guys, HELP ME....but first let me say that I have a 2000 Grand Prix SE with a 3.1 engine and it has 210,000 miles on it and it is front wheel drive! I have replaced both front hub bearings, I have replaced both outer tie rods, I have had the wheels balanced and rotated and I am still having the same problem. When i press the gas from a stop, the car feels like the front tires are wobbling but once i get up to the speed i want, it is a smooth ride, until i press the gas pedal again and then it goes back into a ruff ride. It feels as if the front axles are bent but i know thats not the case. I am not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination but I was able to assist in changing the parts mentioned above. Any one got any ideas please please respond. Thanks

Are you sure you don't have a bad c.v. joint?

Re: 2000 Grand Prix front steering problem????
If the vibration is only under acceleration and the car shifts like it's supposed to (no harsh shifts or whining from the transmission), I would inspect the CV axles and motor mounts first. Another thing that could cause this is bad lower control arm bushings/ball joints, but not as likely.

Re: 2000 Grand Prix front steering problem????
hey thanks for the replies and am thinking along the lines of a bad cv but we lifted it up today and had a guy get inside the car and started it up and put it in forward and the CV joints looked fine, the rubber boots were all in pretty good shape so even though i am leaning towards changing out the passenger side CV i am not convinced, especially today when i drove it to work and i would graddually get to 60 and then put on the cruise control and i didnt have a problem and thats a 30 mile drive. so keep the help comingn and will check itout tomorrow. thanks again for everyones help

Re: 2000 Grand Prix front steering problem????
Many times, CV joints will only act up under load, that's why while off the gas, at a steady speed, or on a hoist the problem goes away. It will most likely progress to the point where it will do it all the time. There's a chance it could also be a differential issue inside the trans.
