88 Accord fuel pump problem

I just finished rebuilding the engine. PCV tube, valves, Vacuum hoses, radiator hoses, power steering pump, however when i tested it to see if it would finally idle, no fuel was coming up the line. I went to the back of the car and opened up the fuel pump so i could get an attempt at listening to see if it was even turning on, however it wasnt. I took out the fuel pump relay and tested it with a voltometer. It was perfectly fine, so i went to the back and tested the connection from the front of the car to the back and it was getting electricity too, However the fuel pump still wont start. It is brand new, used maybe 5-6 times, I replaced it maybe 6 months back. What could this be?

Re: 88 Accord fuel pump problem

If you have voltage at the fuel pump connection at the tank and it is still not running, it is the fuel pump.

Re: 88 Accord fuel pump problem

Ok, how did you determine that you had voltage to the fuel tank fuel pump connections? It takes 2 wires, one with voltage and one as a return. IF YOU MEASURED 12 VOLTS ACROSS THOSE TERMINALS, and the fuel pump is not running, it is the fuel pump, no matter how new it is. Remove it and take it back to where you bought it and make them prove that it works. Be careful of running the fuel pump outside the gas tank. Fuel provides lubrication for the motor and no oxygen while it is in the tank keeps the motor from exploding.

Re: 88 Accord fuel pump problem

Problem solved, Took the fuel pump out and cleaned it off, then took the eletrical cables off and filed the heads down. works like a charm. however i might mention the battery hadnt been in the car, and there was white stuff on the pump, the part that went in the tank. might have been mold or corrosion? dont think it was corrosion though since the bat wasnt in it.

Re: 88 Accord fuel pump problem

The white stuff is corrosion caused by water in the gas which condenses on top side of the tank. This is one reason it is important to always keep your gas on the full side. (I fill my tank whenever the level drops below the 5/8 mark or I find gas cheaper then when I filled it last.
