clean the stuff out from behind the front fender splash shield

The body on my 93 metro only is rust free except in two spots. Both front fenders have rust on the lower attachment point that screws under the rocker panel into the frame. Since this is the only visible rust that I could see, I dedcided to replace both front fenders. I purchased one locally for $88 and another delivered to my house for $57. I had a local body shop paint the new ones.

Well today I pulled the fenders and found the cause for the rust. Behind the spash shields by the lower door hinges, both sides had build up of dirt and crud. It almost looked like a wet birds nest. It is apparent to me that when driven in rain or washed the water would get the "birds nest" wet and the panel rusted from the inside out.

So, It may be worth your time to remove the inner splash shield and remove any obstruction that would cause water to collect.

The other side was actually worse than what you see here
