Old Car Phones

Hey All,

I was wondering if anyone remembers those really old car phones, the ones you used to actually screw into the dashboard. (This would be around 1988-1990).

I bought a 1990 Civic a few weeks ago and noticed a few wires hanging loose under the steering wheel. I traced them to a black box under the drivers seat.

Since its nice out today I decided to rip it out and see what the hell it is. I believe it's a piece for an old car phone. I took a pic and attached it to this post. If it doesnt come through, you can find them at http://www.linuxhelp.ca/phone/

Whatdya think?

Thanks
Joey

Ah, that's what I thought. Thanks for the confirmation.

I wonder why they took out the cell phone but left all the wiring/amp in the car. Too lazy I guess.

Tomororw I'll have to tackle my car stereo problem.

Thanks!

Hahahahha I remember when the car phone was like the thing to have. The portable cell phone totally killed it off.

That is an old AUDIOVOX transceiver, for a cell phone. I haven't seen one of those in years. It is bringing back some memories.

Yah I know what you mean. I found a few things in the car when I bought it. A few empty timmies cups under the drivers seat, a pair of safety glasses under the passengers seat, some pioneer money and now the loose change. I could just imagine what people at the scrap yards find.

Hey do you know of any decent scrap yars in the mississauga/burlington/hamilton area? I wanna try and find the clock that fits into the dash for my 90 civic. For some reason mine doesn't have it..

Thanks

Joey.

If you want, the next time you go out to the grimsby one, let me know and I'll drive out there with ya.

Since it's going to be nice out tomorrow, it would be a perfect day to go rummage around but I'm on call at work so I'm pretty much glued to home.

How much do you think they would charge for the clock anyways? Like $5-$10?

Thanks,
Joey

Two of my buddies worked at junkyards, one that specialized in big american cars, and the other predominantly volkswagens.
The number one item found in the trunk of massive, rusted out oldsmobiles? An oily, battered hard hat.
The number one item left in old volkswagens?
An umbrella.
