00 Grand Prix GT Bad Miss
Hey all,
New to the forums. My wife has a 2000 Grand prix GT, car has about 113,000 miles. When you accelerate hard, like to pass or to get onto the highway the car starts "missing" the tac jumps all over the place, almost feels like it isn't getting fuel? No check engine lights, just feels like a miss. when you are on it, tac will jump up then it will fall back then jump up and fall back again. changed the fuel filter, didn't change anything. Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance. |

Re: 00 Grand Prix GT Bad Miss
Welcome to AF.
How old are the spark plugs and ignition wires? Most misfires regardless of whether detected by setting off a code (DTC) are caused by secondary ignition problems. Start with the basics like a tune up.

Re: 00 Grand Prix GT Bad Miss
I changed the spark plugs and wires 13,000 miles ago. Used all Delco products. I did pull a 1441 code off of the car, but there is no light.

Re: 00 Grand Prix GT Bad Miss
Be sure to double check the spark plugs. Delcos have been having quality issues. Look for cracked ceramic insulators or carbon tracks.
The P1441 could be a pending code or a fluke. Pending may not give an immediate SES/CEL light. Reset the history codes with the scanner and see if it returns. The P1441 DTC is a purge solenoid stuck open or an issue with vacuum used for the evaporative emissions system. Vacuum leaks could cause undetected misfires.

Re: 00 Grand Prix GT Bad Miss
The problem isn't consistant either. I will pull out each plug and make sure they are in good shape, but I would think a plug misfiring would set a light.
The dealer told me the 1441 code has something to do with Canister Purge Valve. is this the same thing as the PCV valve? But he also told me he didn't think that would cause the symptoms i am having. I guess i should be more specific, it almost feels like more of a fueling issue than a quote "misfire" |

Re: 00 Grand Prix GT Bad Miss
Not all misfires set the check engine light and the same is applicable to possible fuel supply issues.
Not the same as the PCV. The purge solenoid is the cannister purge valve along with the vent solenoid. The purge solenoid valve is the sensor you see at the right front side of the UIM which has the vacuum lines from the throttle body and going back to the charcoal cannister. For a fueling issue run a fuel pressure check. 48 - 55 psi.
