Help with sub and amp

I recently bought 12" boxed sony sub and 350watt 2 channel sony amp second hand off the internet.
I installed it and it worked for a small amount of time but now nothing is happening through it.
Anybody got any tips or ideas why it might not be working?
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks
matt

Re: Help with sub and amp

No it doesn't turn on.
When the car is turned off the amp is receiving enough power or when I remove the remote cable when the car is turned on it also is receiving enough power.
Does this mean the remote cable is faulty or something else?
What can I do to help this as it can't turn on without the remote cable?
Thanks

Re: Help with sub and amp

Check all your wiring again. Make sure your ground, power, and remote all work.

Re: Help with sub and amp

the power and ground are fine until the remote cable comes into play.
Does this mean I need a new remote cable?

Re: Help with sub and amp

take the remote wire off the amp, then just run a short wire from the +12V on the amp to the remote terminal and see if the amp will turn on like that. Do not leave it hooked up like this, if it works it means theamp will be on all the time and will drain your battery.

Re: Help with sub and amp

I tried connect the remote to th 12v+ but it still didn't work.
The voltages increased slighltly but are still low around 5-6V.
The power cable is only 8guage could that be a problem?
It manages to run over 12v through the power cables when the remote isn't connected though.
Thanks

Re: Help with sub and amp

if the voltage drops that low when you connect the remote up, then the amp has a serious problem

Re: Help with sub and amp

ok drama
Bought a brand new fusion amp and I can't get it out of protect mode.
I've tried stripping it back to only power and it seems to be fine but I'm not sure whether its turning on in this state as the light is very faint.
When i put the RCA jacks in it's the same ad then when i put the speaker cables in it goes into protect again.
Any knowledge aout this?
thanks

Re: Help with sub and amp

the speaker(s) you are attaching to it are either wired wrong, too low of a load or one is blown (shorted).
