Motor Swap??????

Just curious, I have a 2004 5.3l silverado and I may decide to do a motor swap one day. What is a good direct swap that has better potential than the 5.3l. A buddy mentioned a 6.0L swap for good buildable power, Im open to suggestions. Thanks.

Re: Motor Swap??????

I would def. go with the 6.0L for a swap....There are plenty of guys on here that have done that. I would wait and swap in the new 4.5L Duramax.

Not with Diesel prices as high as they are.

Re: Motor Swap??????

i was actually at one time going to trade this truck in on a Cummins but they wanted too much money down, not really concerned with fuel prices....Im in the oil business.

I am wanting a swap that is fairly simple and as bolt on as it can get. I still want everything to work and someone had mentioned the 6.0l swap. I am assuming that the computer and engine harness needs to be replaced too but will it all work with the factory wiring in the cab and everywhere else, ie. cruise control etc????? Whats a good donor to find the motor in??? Got any price estimates???

Re: Motor Swap??????

Believe it or not, but 99% of the 5.3 accessories, including wire harness, computer, ignition, pumps and more will swap over to the 6.0L. It is my understand that it is one of the easiest swaps there is. I believe one of the things you need to do is reflash the computer to accept the settings.

Re: Motor Swap??????

Sweet, only problem I may have is I reflashed my computer with a Hypertech programmer and I seem to have misplaced the programmer (which has the factory settins) so Im not sure how that will work out.
