My driver's side power window switch will not operate any of the windows. Individual switches on each of the other doors work fine. I tried a new switch with the same results. Seems I have only 5 volts coming to the controller for the windows and locks, but the light pin has 11-12 volts. I checked the ground and it seems okay. I tried checking wiring through the door jab, but nothing stands out. Could the harness be shot somewhere? I am at wit's end and have no idea where else to look. Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: 2000 Jetta Strange Window Problem
I think I located my problem and I'll reply in hopes that it may help someone else with a similar problem. It is the door wiring harness somewhere, and it is the ground. A temporary workaround was to add a ground wire to the door which got my window to working. The harness connector is located on the kick panel directly behind the hood latch. Have not had time to investigate further what the exact cause is. Would probably be easier to replace the wire harness if I can only find a replacement one without breaking the bank.

Re: 2000 Jetta Strange Window Problem
you need to remove the hood release pannel again and unplug the red and blue or whatever color rectangle connectors and pull the door pannel off and pull the harness through the jamb and repair the broken wire. its a common issue on older vw's the wires crack and break.
