Cool Command Trac & Select Trac

I had a 2000 XJ with Select Trac/NP242 & a Chrysler 8.25. Now I have a 2001 XJ with Command Trac/NP231 & Dana 35.
I would like to put Select Trac & the Chrysler 8.25 in the rear. I heard Chrysler axle is a little bit stronger. The Dealer said I can't put a Select Trac in my jeep without changing the axles & the computer unit, requiring a lot of rewiring.
Any advice on fuguring this out.

I plan to lift the Jeep 3 inchs, put 30/31 inch tires on it. swap out the ring & pinion gears for the correct size & put in a locker in the rear.
Right now it's my daily driver & I want to play, but nothing serious. In 4 years it will be my extra Jeep. And then I want to do some off roading. I want to do it right the first time so later I can have some fun.

Theres no "wiring" issues that I know of. The 242 should bolt right to your transmission. Use the driveshaft from the one with the 8.25 and the rear end should bolt in.
If you eventually want to do more building on your XJ I would leave the 231 in it though. The aftermarket for the 231 is much better. You can get 4 to1 reduction gears, 2WD low, HD chain and HD SYEs for the 231 that you cant get for the 242.
The 8.25 is a decent axle. Its strong enough to handle 35" tires if you put alloy shafts in. The aftermarket is a little limited but you can still get a decent selection of lockers. The problem with the 8.25 is the lack of any gears lower than 4.56.
