dash lights on a 1999 s-10 ext cab

the dash lights on my s-10 do not work. the lights on the radio work during daylight but when night falls... no lights on the radio either.
The dimmer slide and the inside lights to the left of the instrument panel work when the truck is off but the minute the key goes in to start the truck no inside or dome override and the headlights automatically come on???? HELP

I know this sounds far fetched but. Depress your emergency brake and then release it.While releasing it,place your foot behind the emergency brake a pull it towards you.
P.S.Make sure your truck is running.

If that does not fix it.replace the switch.
