How to install a Volt Meter
Hello all,
I want to install a volt meter onto my car but would like some info before I go and purchase one. I have a pod already. I am going to be getting one that changes colors so I know more wiring is required for that. Please let me know what needs to be done.A diagram would be a plus. Thanks again, Christina |

Re: How to install a Volt Meter
I dont know anything about the changing of colors, but to connect the voltmeter you want a ground - most anything under the dash that is metal should do to bolt to, and a 12 volt connection that comes on with the ignition. Usually these can be found on the fuse block, and you add a wire from a fuse for someting like the radio, running to the voltmeter.
I dont think auto voltmeters are very accurate, and each one may read a little high or low. But usually they will give a good repeatable idea of whether you voltage is getting too low, or too high. |

Re: How to install a Volt Meter
That sounds simple enough..thanks for the info. But one last question..when you say connect a wire to a fuse do you mean actually take the fuse out and wrap it or wire it into the part where the fuse goes into? Sorry, I just want to make sure I do it right. :-)
Thanks alot. |

Re: How to install a Volt Meter
They make a little thingamabob called add-a-circuit. You can find them at the auto parts stores with the in-line fuses. What they are is, essentially a power tap. It plugs into a spot in your fuse block for power, while keeping the original circuit on the same fuse, but creates another fused circuit power source for little things like this.
Bugger looks like this.. ![]() If your getting a lighted gauge, you'll then have to tap a source for the light to turn on when you roll the switch on your multi-function switch. I have used the brown or green ( i don't remember which one is was for sure) wire in the dimmer switch circuit for a power source for that. g'luck
