84 Caprice - Electric Choke not opening

I have an 84 Caprice where the electric choke does not open. I recently turned the spring so the choke stay sully open. Car runs fine after warming up. Where is a good place to start checking. I recently put on a rebuilt carb.

It should be fairly easy to diagnose. First, did you check for the presence of a voltage at the wire that plugs into the choke? Should be 12v whenever the key is on. If there is voltage, replace the choke actuator.

Another thing to look at, would be that since it is a rebuilt carburetor, that the choke is properly adjusted. Sometimes it can be so far out that it seems like it's not working.

I believe the alternator output goes to the choke electrical connection...also check for rust and other goo that would interere with the choke plate movement...

the electrical connector usually needs replacing...at the choke connection ..

next is check that the choke pull off diapham is not leaking...if this leaks the pull off is also going to cause this issue..if the pull off is working correctly it should snap back quickly as soon as the engine is started...

you may have multiple problems......

good luck

If after you fix the defective part you want to ensure that the choke stove is working as to spec. the choke with 12volts dc applied should be fully open in 3 minuites...

found this with the dead sea scrolls..
