I was hosing off my engine bay from a pretty detailed clean with a degreaser etc. When it came time to wash it off I noticed a ticking coming from the driver firewall. I didn't think much of it till I noticed my headlights suddenly coming on with no input from me.
Eh I tried checking all fuses and all was fine. Could it possibly be that I fried my LCM? The manual switch works fine for the parking and fogs but the headlights just wont turn off with out me removing the battery. Any help at all would be great . I'm tired of unplugging my battery everytime I turn the car off

Re: Headlights wont turn off!
Welcome to AF.
It would help to annotate the year and model in your post. What happens when you remove the DRL fuse? It sounds like an issue with the daytime running lights module (DRL).

Re: Headlights wont turn off!
Check the relay and fuses for the headlights. I took my dog outside one night and noticed my fog lights were on on my Grand Am. The keys were inside my house and the car was off. I opened up the door and the headlight switch and fog light switch were off. Pulled the relay, cleaned the dirty contacts with a tooth brush and put it back. Fogs were off and it hasn't happened since. (Unfortunately it led me to find the cause of the corroded relay. . .Broken sunroof drain leaking directly into the passenger side fuse panel.)

![]() What specific relay would that be in a '97-'03 Grand Prix? We do not have a separate headlight relay. All relay type controls and control of the auto headlamp system to include turn on/off are in the DRL module with headlamp switch set to off.

. Any ideas are helpful. It's odd but soon as I heard the "ticking" by the firewall the lights come on. Tail lights are off it's just the headlights that are on which points me to the LCM but who knows.

Re: Headlights wont turn off!
Try pulling the electrical connectors to the DRL module. If the headlights go off then probably the DRL module. But be sure to see if there is manual control with the headlamp switch with the DRL module disconnected. If they stay on then there is a short external to the DRL module. The headlight circuits pass 12 volts to the low or high beams via the multifunction switch and then directly to the lamp sockets which have a constant ground on one side.

Re: Headlights wont turn off!
Hmm thats the thing I've always had my DRL disabled by unplugging the small connector by the driver side door. I can't recall if the lights went off when I removed the manual switch assembly. I was told it could also be a LCM issue but their pricey and I have no idea where I could troubleshoot/find it in my car. Thanks again

Re: Headlights wont turn off!
That unplugs the DRL diode but not the whole electrical connector to the DRL module. The DRL module is the one located at the left hand side of the dash. Just open the cover and you should see it. To remove it go underneath the dash after removing the kickpanel. Also, double check and see if the lights go off with the headlight switch disconnected. If the module is bad you can get a used one from Ed Morad at his EBay store.
