2004 Cavalier. Are there any oils thiner than 5w30 (other than 0w30) listed in the owners manual for use in this car, and the temperature ranges for each? Thanks.

Re: Oil viscosity?
5w20 but y do you what to use a very thin oil. It's not recommend to use a thin oil in your car.

Re: Oil viscosity?
5w30 is a good all season motor oil.
If you live in the more southern states, i would probably run 10w30

Re: Oil viscosity?
Sorry, been AFK for a long time!
I want to run the thinest oil the engineers say I can for best gas mileage. It makes a huge difference, in my truck 15/40 gives me 6 mpg and 10/30 gives me 11.5 mpg highway. If it says 5/20 in the owners manual, why would a "thin" oil not be recomended? What's the temperature range they give? I appreciate you checking for me!

Re: Oil viscosity?
If you don't keep the pedal to the floor all the time, and don't drive hard, and change it on schedule, you can use thinner oil. It will give you better mileage.
But drive hard with thin oil, and the motor won't last as long. |
