Boost Hesitation

When I first bought my car, one of the vaccum lines came off of the boost solenoid causing me to over boost and then get fuel cut. Well, once I reattached it, it ran great. Now, it is doing the same thing agian and the line is still connected. I am not sure if it is over-boosting or what but it feels like the same thing. And here is the catch, not always does it do this. Most of the time yes, but not always. There is very noticable jerking in the power when I am WOT and really want to get this fixed. Any ideas?

Re: Boost Hesitation

My problem turned out to be my alternator, it started exactly with your symptoms and gradually got worse
the correct voltage wasnt getting to to plugs (copper tip:requiring a little more power than the other metal tips) causing the spark to be too weak for boost.
by no means im i saying its your alternator, but just a worst-case scenerio and something to be aware of.

Re: Boost Hesitation

^^This is actually kind of scary because mine, like yours, just went away all the sudden. If I start having the adverse affects that you experieced after this I will be sure to look into it.

Re: Boost Hesitation

good plan, just watch for your warning lights on your cluster. if some come on randomly and dimly, theres your sign. hahah.
its not too terrible of a cost though, mine is ending up to be around $300 with labor included.
so all in all, worse things could happen

Re: Boost Hesitation

Lol, I hope it doesn't happen. My ABS light came on once about a week ago but it wasn't dim and hasn't returned since. If it needs a new alternator I'll replace it myself but even still, I don't want to do it if I don't have to lol.

Re: Boost Hesitation

Ehh, it's not that bad. You can do it in about 30 min.

Re: Boost Hesitation

Wow it sounds like it may be the same problem as 701 had.

On a side note, you said your ABS light came on? Did the ABS still work that you know of? I ask because you can disable them until the next time you turn on the car by turning a corner and hitting the brakes fairly hard...all while yanking the e-brake for a second just so the back end slides a tiny bit. Dont ask me how I know this...it was kind of a fluke thing that I replicated just to see if my theory was correct. Im guessing that it wouldnt work like that with AWD locking the e-brake, but just a random fact for you FWD guys.

Re: Boost Hesitation

No, I have not tried that and I'm not sure I want to know how you know that either.

So, you're calling it a science experiment? Sure, it's your story. You tell it how you want.
