2001 supercharger

HI so since the other thread was closed for some reason i started a new one.

now im still looking all over on how to supercharge a 2001 ls.

but i am very confused on what my 3800 actually is its a series 2 and i just saw that that means its a L67 but i was told before that that is the 2004 series 3 supercharged one.

can some one please advise on witch engine i have and how to supercharge it.

Re: 2001 supercharger

The L67 is a supercharged Series II
The L32 is a supercharged Series III

You have a few options to super charge your car.

1) Buy a "Top Swap", has the L67 Heads, intake, fuel rail and everything from the top of the L67.

2) Buy a blower and get it to work on the L36 with the kit and that ZZP sells for doing so.

3) Buy a used L67 from a wrecker, long as its from a 99 - 03 Grand Prix GTP or 04 - 05 Impala SS. But IIRC the Engine Wiring harness from a GP wont work in an impala. But you can modify your existing one easily to work (I believe you just have to buy an adapter or two from ZZP)

Someone else can probably Say this better, or correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm planning on going with option 3 come spring because my transmission is going. Going to buy an 04/05 4T65E and get an L67, and get a 04/05 Impala SS wiring harness that will work with the L67 and the 04/055 Model of the 4T65E. I also plan to get a Plog, 3" DP and a catback, Colder plugs, a nice CAI, put a 3.4" Pulley on it and get it tuned. 200HP is boring, 260 - 275HP gonna be fun.

Re: 2001 supercharger

one thing to keep in mind...if you decide to go with the top swap option, the l36 has higher compression than the l67. you will NOT want to run a smaller pulley on the l36 unless you do a valve job.

another thing to keep in mind...the supercharged 3800's come with the 4T65E-HD tranny. the l36 comes with the normal 4T65E. you may want to get the upgraded front axle from an HD tranny since you will be producing more torque.

just wanted to chime in because i successfully did a top swap on my grand prix SE

Re: 2001 supercharger

The Only real difference with the HD tranny is a slightly smaller TC, a larger differential and 2.93 Gearing. Unless you squeel your tires alot, or do lots of burnouts, than yes you want the stronger dif, but you don't really NEED it.

thats a pretty big difference believe me...you will kick yourself in the a$$ not having the HD tranny. i had the differential go out in my SE not even 2 months after doing the top swap. not to mention...the HD tranny has performance shift (not sure if the Impala can have that added to it)
