Jolting at high RPMs?

I have a manual '98 Accord with 123k miles on it. I bought it used about 3 months ago and had it checked out by a repairman that I'd known for a long time, so I was pretty sure I was getting a car in good condition.

About a week ago I realized I wasn't gettin the kind of power at higher RPMs (just before shifting up; about 4000rpm) than I had before. Didn't think much of it at the time; it was a small difference. However, the other day while I was driving in 3rd gear and hit 4000rpm, my car started jolting. After testing it a bit, I found that it seems to do the jolting at 4000rpm regardless of the gear I'm in. It's not a once in awhile kind of thing; I can replicate it every time.

I'm not much of a car person, but if you need any other information, I'd be glad to give it to ya.

How about your car's maintenance history?

Could be a simple matter of bad plugs, failed wires or distributor cap.

Make sure your collant is up to the marks. Hondas are quite sensitive to it.

It could also be old motor mounts. Check to see if the rubbers are in good condition (no deep cracks or tears.)

It also could be the transmission itself, but I dont know much of the manual mechanism, but when I had Ford Ranger after I replaced new fork and few other parts, the car shift and drove smoothly.

Have you cleaned your fuel injectors, that could be the power problem, these Honda's were built to run the highest Octane. On the jolting problem, have a good look at your tires, my experience has always been that when a car jolts and shakes at the same speed or rpm's, I've always needed a front end alignment or I had a seperated tire. Happy car! The coolant will never do anything to your car but keep it happy,running out of it will cause you to overheat and that's when your car idles bad,no jolts.Surely your smart like that.

Just for your information: when a coolant sensor encouters air (higher temperature reading) it (the sensor) becomes crazy. The sensor reports the readings to the ECU. ECU gives another command to injectors, EGR system and others. They change air/fuel mixture trying to correct something (which we do not need). The motor malfunctions...
