95' Intrepid tranny problems

Bought a 95' Intrepid for $1000 with only 78,000 on the motor, but now it seems to be having issues with the transmission. The fluid when it was purchased was a little dark, but during the test drive (30 minutes) everything on the vehicle seemed to be working fine. Anyway when the motor and tranny get warmed up it will not shift out of 1st. Any suggestions to why my car is screwed up and how i can begin fixing it?? Thanks

Re: 95' Intrepid tranny problems

Have you done the key dance for codes?? I believe your tranny is in what is called the LIMP MODE (safety feature to prevent further damage to tranny). Tranny stays in second gear. Check the input and output sensors and their wires and connectors. Has the tranny fluid and filter been change lately. Use ATF+4 fluid only in tranny. IF any other fluid was used get all of out (including what is in the torque converter)immediately as it will ruin the tranny.

Post any codes

Re: 95' Intrepid tranny problems

Took the car in. Had them change out the filter kit, and flush the tranny. Then had them replace the fluid w/ ATF 4 and added a bottle of lucas tranny fluid. Seems to have fixed the problem. I've driven the car for about 300 miles and not a single slip yet. Thanks for all of your advice and help.
