1995 Lumina gas Mileage

I have a 95 lumina ls with 83000 miles and the 3.1 v6 with everything bone stock. So with my lumina I am getting like 23 highway and 12-13 city. I dont drive the car rough it has good plugs and doesnt seem to be loosing any power or lag at the pedal. I know it needs wires just havent had the time to put them on. Do anyone know that the plugs should make that much difference? or if there is naything that I can check.

Thanks

Change the fuel filter and no one does this since it under the car.The plugs can go up to 100,000 miles, change them just before 100,000.AC Delco plugs are the best plugs for your car and stay away from Bosch plugs

Ok I will try that. With the filter being under the car is it more towards the gas tank or just in a random place? Also What about the fuel injectors, is there a possibility that they are going out?

Thanks

Re: 1995 Lumina gas Mileage

Does your car have any codes showing? Mine had a few codes and the service engine light burnt out so I didn't know about them till I went to autozone and had the computer read. I had terrible gas mileage because my camshaft position sensor split in half, anyways check to see if you have any codes and post them here.

No codes what so ever not even past codes. The guy had a snap on reader as well which I hear is a very good code reader. So i am back to square one and am gonna start with the wires and go from there.

Pour in a bottle of Lucas in the gas tank and that is the best fuel injector cleaner out there including Chevron. Most parts stores sell Lucas.

did you replace the fuel filter yet? I've been meaning to do this for a long time to try to improve my similar gas mileage ('99 LTZ). If I remember correctly it's near the gas tank (on the front side)

When I was changing my fuel filter, I was being very careful because i knew the fuel was under pressure and I still almost got it in my eyes. Be very very careful.

Good warning to put out. I relieved the pressure on mine and still managed to get a gasoline shower all over my head and back. Luckily, I was expecting drops to come out and had my eyes protected. It wasn't a few drops, it was a small stream of gas and believe me it burned my skin.

I did a full tune up, plugs and wires, oil/tranny/fuel filters, oil, pcv valve and seafoaming.

I did not see an increase in gas mileage at all in terms of city driving. I havent taken it on the highway yet.

I get 17 city, was hoping to see a gain in MPG after a full tuneup.

No. I haven't done anything yet it is really hard to work on the car in the middle of my dorm parking lot! In two weeks I am headed home to do all of the work I have autolite plug wires hoping that they can help me out. Just dont have all the right tools to do the job. So for now I am biting the bullet and not driving unless it is necessary.

Re: 1995 Lumina gas Mileage

Your 95 is still OBD-I, so it doesn't have the capability to detect reandom mis-fires and such. I would start with new plugs (your car didn't come factory with 100k mile platinum/iridium plugs so the gaps could be severely eroded), wires, PCV and fuel filter and see what happens. Until a full tune-up is done, we could speculate for days as to what could be causing your poor mileage.
