Tamiya Yamaha YZR-M1 Valencia Edition

Yes it’s another Rossi Yamaha M1 but I’ve really enjoyed this build. The kit is Tamiya motorcycle series 14105 Valencia Edition which bizarrely, but I’m guessing for licensing reasons, comes with Colin Edwards markings only. To the basic kit I added Crazy Modeler Rossi decals, some parts from the Studio27 p/e set, the Top Studio exhaust end parts and the lovely Tamiya fork upgrade set. This last item is lovely and compliments the kit perfectly, but surely should be in the box as standard.

For a little reference I used the Haynes MotoGP 2005 Review, plus the Tamiya Model Magazine #134 where the yellow version of this kit was reviewed.

The build, as expected, went perfectly with no fitment issues, the fork upgrade set integrated without problems, and the Crazy Modeler decals lay down beautifully with a nice shiny finish and is pleasingly complete, right down to the event decals on the frame. I didn’t use much of the S27 set, but the new exhaust tip is a nice touch and makes it look much less “plastic”. I’ve used some Scale Motorsport carbon fibre here and there, and the paint is all Tamiya as called out on the instructions.

And here’s the family group so far. They will eventually be joined by the NSR500 and blue M1…

I haven’t bothered with a WIP as this kit has been covered many times before, and I cannot hope to match some of the Master Modeller examples seen elsewhere on this site. Comments always welcome!

Looks great, good job on the carbon. One your next build try looking at replacing the tamiya tubing for something a little more in scale. It just adds a nice touch. Well done.

Very nice build, good carbon fiber bits as well and overall an excellent finish.

Looking awesome! I love this bike. I especially like the heat staining on the exhaust....how did you go about doing it?
