94 GMC 3/4T 4wd makes a clank noise

I have a 94 GMC with a 383 Stroker engine in it. the engine has a "ticker" sound coming from the flapper valve. I have put in an additive for this into the oil and it hasn't helped. I have been told that this isn't a big deal, more irritating than destructive. It will eventually make the engine "miss", but that it can be adjusted (by someone who knows how). any suggestions?

That isn't the reason for this post, but still a concern. My issue is that I have a noise coming from under the area of where my stick shift goes into the frame. It is a definite "clank". the shift does not vibrate. I can feel a pull on the truck when this clank happens. It can happen at slow speeds, 20 mph, or even freeway speeds. I am not a mechanic. I am a single mom playing at trying to take care of her truck. I have had to learn as I go with this old truck. I am willing to do what I can and don't worry about greasy nails or busted knuckles.

Can anyone out there give me some clues as to what this might be? At first I thought it might be the U-joints, but the shift isn't vibrating. I worry about safety. This is my only vehicle and I have my kids with me.
