01 focus vibration in the morning

Hey everyone I have a 01 ford focus se sohc with a 5 speed tranny. In the morning we i start the car it makes a horrible grinding or vibration sound from under the hood, the car is in neutral and is not moving. When i go to back out it still makes the sound but gets louder, and continues to do this for around 15 minutes or so, after you drive a little while it almost quits making the noise completly. i have no idea what is making this noise. I hope someone can help, this problem makes it hard to get checked out because by the time i get it to a mechanic it doesnt make the sound.

You need to pick up a mechanic's stethescope at an oriellys or pep boys, listen to the idler and tensioner when you first start it up. My money would be on a bad idler, Ford used the same little black smooth pulley on all their cars for a while...and they suck. Good luck with it.

After you check that I would incline on the passenger motor mount. I have read in other forums that it seems to be the culprit. Once the engine is nice a hot the vibration goes away due to the motor mount kinda sits more firm when the engine is hot.

My money is also on the top mount. My 01 did the same thing and yours sound like mine did. I hit some tracks and all of it stopped, I looked under the hood and found that top mount blew out and was sitting flat. I replaced the mount new and the car never vibed again!

My wifes '01 has 111,000m on it and her rear motor mount just broke for the second time. That's what it sounds like your problem is.

Not only that but the cheap plastic thermostat housing also cracked for the second time.

I bought her an '05 Chevy Impala yesterday and when i replace the motor mount and broken drivers seat on the focus it will have a for sale sign in the window. opcorn:
