1989 Econoline 150 starting problem

My van has been sitting for two years. I put in new plugs and battery, some new gas. Almost started to fire up, quit. The battery runs down fast. The positive cable gets warm. It's an FI, I can hear the fuel pump turn on.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Take a 12 volt test light and put it on the coil negative if the light doesn't blink as you crank the vehicle replace the pickup in the distributor. If it blinks remove the module on the side of the distributor. Auto Zone and Advance will check them for free. If this don't work reply back.

I cut the old ends off the battery cables, put on new clamps, bam! Started right up!
Thanks!
