ford escort transaxel

I have a 93 Ford Escort that needs a new transaxel. Does anyone know what price range the repair costs would be for something like that?

If you get a new tranny I would expect it to be a few hundred dollars, plus a couple hundred more to put it in for you. I would think that if you shop around you should be able to keep it under $600 or so. If you do some extra shopping around and find a used tranny an a junked car or soemthing, then it would be way cheaper.

How do you know that you need a new transmission?
Mine has 170,000 miles on it, and is all original.
