Power steering pump replacement
Going to replace my power steering pump tomorrow. I've already read bnaylors write up in the maintenance section. Just wondering if anyone has extra tips or tricks that might help.

Jack up passenger right side and place a jackstand under. Remove the right front wheel. Gives more clearance for removing the hoses.

I just recently did this job and would have written it up exactly the same way as Bob's proceedure.

New pump in. Went exactly like the write up. The only thing I would do different next time is remove the lines BEFORE removing mounting bolts. I think I still got some air in system though, has a little tiny bit of noise and some bubbles if I remove dipstick at idle. Thanks again for the tutorial.

You should be able to bleed the air out by turninig the wheels far left, far right, over and over again with the cap on.
What was wrong with the first pump that was in the car?

It was very noisy and VERY hard to turn. When you would force the wheel to turn you could smell burning p/s fluid. It was also shooting fluid out, not really dripping but getting flung all over the engine. I figure the seal around the input shaft must have blown out. I won an auction on ebay for 17 bucks including shipping for a brand new oem gm pump so I figured what the hell. It was the right pump and now all is well. Thanks again AF you guys rock.
