so recently i bought a new 1,800 watt amp and i have a 1.5F capacitor it worked before on my old 750watt amp but now that i hooked the new one up the capacitor is getting power because all the light are on but its only reading 00.00 on the charge and because of that my subs wont work so does any one know whats wrong with my capacitor if i just hooked it up wrong or if its broke, please help me out anyone

Did you remember to charge up the cap with a resister first?

it was charged all the way when we first hooked it up it worked for about a minute then it went blank and read nothing but 0's

and you checked all fuses? even the one's that is suppose to shut it down before blowing fuses or speakers or amp?

ya i checked the fuses in the amp and the main fuse that hooks up from the battery to the cap

You connected something up wrong, please tell us exactly how all the wires on the cap are connected.

Note: The cap will slowly drain even without use. When it is taken out of the old system you need to short the circuit and connect the + and - of the cap together to drain it completely. Then you can re-charge the cap and you should be good to go. I ran into the same general problem once and thats what worked. It took a lot of research but there are a lot of people who have that problem.
Also you may need a bigger cap. You want 1farad per 1000W you are almost at 2000W so you should theoretically have a 2 farad cap. Although this wouldnt cause your problem. |
